Akshay Kumar. Kareena Kapoor. Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards, all come in one package. ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ is one of the biggest releases of 2009. The expectation from the film is sky high. With so many Hollywood stars merged in one film, the film is expected to be one of its kinds. Exotic locations, wonderful star casts, amazing picturisation will be a treat to watch. Music of most of Akshay’s films have hit the chartbusters and so all are looking forward to it with high hopes. Debutante director Sabbir Khan's extravagant action-packed film Kambakkht Ishq is also regarded the same in terms of music.
‘Kambakkht Ishq’ is very rich in style and a big budget film. The task of framing the music is given to music composer Anu Malik and guest composers Salim-Sulaiman and RDB. The album has all flavor of music - party, love, sad, anger and very rich in instrumentation. The album has long lists of singers like Alisha, Neeraj, Nindy Kaur, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Shreya Ghosal and few more. They have all been roped to make the music of ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ ear-soothing.
The album opens with ‘Om Mangalam’. It’s a combination of both traditional and western rhythm. If on one side Anu Malik chants ‘Shlok’, another side RDB speed up and making a perfect Bollywood number. It can also be touted as a title song because the word ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ is repeated number of times. It is fast paced with good choreography, excellent picturization and rich in western arrangements. The song is a foot-tapping number.
The second track of the film is ‘Lakh Lakh’ by Neeraj Shridar who has done many playback singing for Akshay Kumar. It is a teasing number where Akshay Kumar is chasing Kareena Kapoor and as usual Kareena runs away from him in an angry mood. The teasing number is very common in Bollywood and it is one of its kind. The song has a Punjabi Bhangra flavor and totally a foot tapping number. Lyrics by rising star Anvita Dutt Guptan is quite thrilling. Indian instruments like dhol are mainly included.
Next track is ‘Bebo’ crooned by versatile singer Alisha Chinai and Anu Malik. The title definitely refers to Kareena Kapoor. The songs goes with her nature very well and can be played at pubs and discos. The song goes as “Bebo, me Bebo, dil mera lelo”. The song is very thrilling to hear and full of fun. On hearing, you will feel like crooning the song.
The fourth track of the album is the title track, ‘Kambakkht Ishq’. It is very disappointing as there is no thrill and passion in spite crooned by K.K. This time he sounds very stale and lacks energy. But the plus point is the lyrics which is very catchy. The video might add some ecstasy to the song, if not then the title track will be a wastage.
The fifth track of the album goes as ‘Kyun’, its very romantic and mind-blowing, as it plays, it will touch your heart. It’s a soft melody sung by Shreya Ghosal and Shaan. The piano tune and soft music touches our soul. After so much peppy and joshful numbers, ‘Kyun’ offer us some relaxation. It is one of the best songs of the album and this time Anu Malik scores really high.
The last track of the album says, ‘Welcome To Hollywood’ crooned by Karsh Kale and Anushka Manchanda, the song is nothing special and purely situational. Mostly western instruments are used. It will obviously showcase the Hollywood stars along with Akshay Kumar. The track is a sassy number and won’t fall in everyone’s fav list.
In the nutshell, the music of ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ is not high class and will be liked by selective people only. The tracks like ‘Kyun’, ‘Bebo’ will acquire some credit. Time will say whether the album will able to hit the chartbuster or just fall among the average. |
