My Name Is Khan If you expect something mammoth from Karan Johar’s ‘My Name Is Khan’ then you are not to be blamed because he is a man who never disheartens you and give you more than your expectation. Compromising with anything including music is not in Karan’s diary. Past record shows that music of Karan Johar’s film never sounds dull. Music of his film always scores high.

‘My Name Is Khan’ is big in every sense. After a gap of eight years, Shahrukh Khan and Kajol reunite to ablaze the silver screen. The music of the film is full of emotions. The songs are making big waves and are on the verge to hit the chartbuster. Karan has signed his favorite music director Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy to compose the music. There are altogether six songs, each are of different flavors. The script and the songs of the film compliment each other.

The album opens with ‘Sajda’ sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Shankar Mahadevan and Richa Sharma. The song has a sufi flavor. The song is situational set in shaadi environment. If you hear once, you will feel like repeated hearing. It has a qualli touch also.

The second track goes as ‘Noor-e-khuda’ sung by Adnan Sami, Shreya Ghoshal and Shankar. The musical arrangement is very promising, comprising of both Indian and western arrangements. It is basically a male dominated song but as soon as Shreya enters, the mood and rhythm changes and takes a complete new turn.

The third song goes as ‘Tere Naina’. Shafqat Amanat Ali renders the song. The musical arrangement was remarkable and it again has a quawalli flavor. The ornamentation of the song is very catchy. Once you hear the song, you will feel like tapping your feet.

Coming up next is another sufi sort of song, ‘Allah Hi Rahem’. The song has a complete different feeling. It is a spiritual song seems inspired by Rahman’s work. It is one of the best song of the album that will sure to score high at the music buster.

Next in the line is ‘Rang De’ crooned by Shankar Mahadevan and Suraj Gagan. It is deviated from the rest of the songs. If the earlier tracks are quawalli and sufi then it is like an usual Hindi filmi number. On listening, it reminds us of ‘Rock On’ and ‘Wake Up Sid’.

Last but not the least is the theme song, ‘My Name Is Khan’. It is very mesmerizing and has a feel good effect. The piece of orchestra is very touching

On the whole, the music of ‘My Name Is Khan’ is engrossing and will surely be crooned now and then. The music will add to the charm of the film.
